The inspection and quote
It starts with someone on your roof and in your attic. They should photograph the condition of every slope, check the decking where they can, and look at ventilation. The quote that follows should spell out the shingle line, underlayment, flashing, ventilation work and the price per sheet for any decking that needs replacing.
If the replacement is going through insurance, the insurer's estimate sets most of the scope, and your contractor works from that.

Crews usually start early to avoid the worst of the heat. The day goes roughly like this:
Most houses are done in one or two days. Larger or more complex roofs can take longer, and rain can push the schedule.
Cleanup and walkthrough
At the end, debris is hauled off and magnetic sweepers pick up nails from the yard, driveway and beds. You should get a walkthrough of the finished roof, photos, the final invoice, and your warranty paperwork.
