The Complete Guide to Roof Installation: What to Expect from Start to Finish

Roof installation is a critical part of building maintenance and property protection. A roof is designed to provide shelter from the elements, keeping the building’s contents dry and safe from water damage. Over time, the roof can become damaged or subject to normal wear and tear. When this happens, a new roof installation may be in order.

In this ultimate guide, we will be taking you through all you need to know about roof installation right from the first consultation to final inspection. As a reliable full-service roofing company, at Dimensional Pro Construction we have been serving homeowners and business owners across Texas for years with all their roofing needs.

We are experts in delivering quality roof installations and repairs every time and we work on every project with the highest level of professionalism and precision.

Initial Consultation and Inspection

Before any installation can begin, you will first need to schedule a consultation with a local roofing contractor. The purpose of this is for us to see the current state of your roof, go over what you want from a roof, and determine which type of roof would work best for your property.

When we visit your home or business, we look at:

Roof damage: Do you have any leaks, damaged shingles or other issues that should be taken care of right away?

Roof size and structure: We determine the square footage and look at the pitch (steepness) of your roof.

Choosing the Right Roofing Material

The next big decision after you’ve chosen your roof type is deciding what roofing material will work best for you and your budget. Your roof type will determine how much the new roof will cost, how long it will last, and what it looks like.

We offer several different roofing materials at Dimensional Pro:

Asphalt Shingles: Most popular and cost-effective residential roofing material. Durable, available in many colors and styles.

Metal Roofing: Exposed fastener metal roofing is being increasingly used for both Residential & Commercial applications because of its energy saving properties & durability.

Clay and Concrete Tiles: If you’re after a classic or Mediterranean-style roof, look no further. These tiles are extremely durable and can handle just about any weather conditions.

Slate Roofing: You’ll find this material on many historic homes, or on homes that need a luxurious look. Slate is ultra-durable and fire-resistant.

We’ll assist you with making the best choice for your climate, budget, and style of home or business.

Preparing for Installation Day

After you have chosen your roofing materials and signed the contract, it is time to get ready for the installation. At Dimensional Pro Construction we do everything that we can to make sure that things go smoothly and quickly.

Here are some steps:

Clearing the Area: We request that you please clear your driveway and other exterior areas closest to where we will be working, giving our crew easy access to your home and keeping all of your personal items safe.

Protecting Your Property: Landscaping, windows and doors will be covered by our crew as a means of preventing damage during the installation process. We take safety very seriously and work hard to make sure the area is secure.

Schedule and Communication: We will give you a detailed write up on how the installation works, when our crew will be at your job and update you on progress.

Roof Removal (If Necessary)

When replacing an existing roof, the first step in a roof replacement process is removing the old roof. This can be a noisy and dirty part of the job, but it’s an important one as well. It allows us to determine if there are any issues with your roof deck that need to be addressed. During this phase, we will remove all of the old shingles, tile or metal and dispose of them responsibly.

During this first phase is when we can also inspect the decking (the surface that supports the shingles) for damage. If we do find anything wrong with your decking or any other structural

concerns on your home, we can bring it to your attention and help remedy those problems before installing your new roof.

Installation of Underlayment and Flashing

The next step in the process is the installation of a waterproof underlayment on top of your roof decking. The underlayment provides an added layer of protection and prevents any water from leaking into your home.

Flashing is then installed around your roof’s edge, as well as around any chimneys, skylights, or vents that are installed on your roof. Flashing is a metal strip that seals up any potential gaps where water could potentially get through and cause leaks.

Laying the New Roofing Material

Now for the fun part – let’s put on that new roof. First of all, I’ll tear off 1/2 the width of your house – do you mind? OK, just kidding…

I’ll assume we’re talking about shingles here. We start at the bottom on one side and work our way up in a row of overlapping shingles. Then we move up to the next row above it and repeat. When we get to rakes and more complicated places along your main ridge, chimney or dormers; Weaving is done with what looks like a lot of wasted shingles but if not done this way makes a big mess! Everything required by warranty will be included such as copper valley flashings (install extra leak protection in valleys). Oh yeah… Next day I’ll bring back any leftover roof tiles I collected while tearing off around chimney or dormer areas.

Final Inspections and Clean-Up

Once we install your roof, then we will do a complete inspection to verify all aspects are in order and that you have no missing shingles, sealed flashing and working gutters and downspouts.

After the inspection, we cleaned up. We take pride in removing every piece of debris, nails and materials from your yard. When leaving, I do a final walk through with you to make sure YOU are completely satisfied.

Post-Installation Care and Maintenance

After the installation, you’ll want to maintain and take care of your new roof. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prolong the life of your roof and catch any issues before they become major problems. We recommend having your roof inspected once per year and after any severe storms or weather.

Dimensional Pro Construction provides complete roof inspections and maintenance to keep your roof in great shape for years to come.
