Storm Damage Restoration: A Typical Timeline

After a storm, the first question most homeowners ask is how long this is going to take. Every claim is different, and big storms back up insurers and suppliers, but most go roughly like this.

Not sure what shape your roof is in?

Free inspection scheduled within 24 hours. Free, with photos you keep.

Day 1 to 2: The first call and emergency work

You call, we schedule an inspection, usually within 24 hours. If the roof is open, we tarp it the same day. You photograph the damage and note the storm date.

Days 1 to 3: Inspection

We inspect every slope, the flashing and vents, gutters, siding, screens and fencing, and photograph everything. You get a clear answer about whether the damage is worth a claim.

Days 2 to 5: Filing

If you decide to file, you open the claim with your insurer and get a claim number. The insurer assigns an adjuster, who contacts you to schedule a visit.

Weeks 1 to 3: The adjuster visit

After a large storm, adjusters are busy, so this step varies the most. We meet the adjuster on the roof to point out all the damage we documented.

A few days after the visit: The estimate

The insurer sends an estimate listing what they will pay for. We go through it with you line by line. If damage was left out, we send a supplement with photos. Supplements can add a week or more.

Once the scope is agreed: Scheduling

You choose your shingle line and color, we handle HOA approval if needed and pull permits where the city requires them. Material is ordered.

Install day: 1 to 2 days

Most houses take one or two days: tear-off, decking repair, underlayment and leak barrier, new flashing and vents, shingles and cleanup. Gutters, siding and fence work follows on its own schedule.

After the work: Closing the claim

We send the insurer the final invoice and completion photos, which releases the depreciation they held back. You get copies of everything, plus your warranty paperwork.

Keeping your new roof in shape

  • Have it inspected once a year and after big storms
  • Keep gutters clean
  • Trim trees back from the roof
  • Keep your claim paperwork and photos with your house records
  • Most homeowners are surprised how little of this they have to handle themselves once someone is managing it. Call (855) 741-ROOF to start with a free inspection.
